Winter clothes can sometimes have you feeling a bit bulky with all those layers. So we thought we would add in a simple "posh" winter look that will have you feeling sophsitcated and cozy. For Linnea's posh winter look, she chose a white chenille sweater with a bright statement necklace. She paired this with a simple black skirt & black tights. The necklace really makes the white sweater stand out and creates a simple but strong style!

What are your favorite posh winter looks?

5 Jessica and Maine Shoes

Living in Maine, you learn to develop a style that accounts for the cold, snowy winters. Warm boots (with a good sole), warm socks, layers, flannels, fisherman's sweaters, scarfs, thick jackets, did I mention layers? You also invest in some quality pieces that truly function and will last. Jessica chose to display her Maine style with a classic flannel from H&M. Paired with a jean skirt and leggings, knitted socks and Bass boots, this makes for a casual warm Maine look. Although you do not need to wear a sweater with a deer on it to look "Mainer", Linnea chose to display her Maine winter style with comfy sweater and toasty bomber hat. Relaxed look with leggings (might want to double layer those) and Bean Boots, this style will take you through the snow, slush, wind, and any cold weather Maine may throw at you, just don't forget your coat, scarf, gloves, etc...

Highlight Items:

H&M Flannel Shirt $29.95

Merona Men's Long Sleeve Sweatshirt $20.00

Fall is just around the corner and it is time to start switching out your makeup colors for the new season! Whether you are trying out a new hair color or the hottest new makeup palette, you want to make sure that the makeup color you choose is right for you.

Rachel Gangemi, a celebrated brow expert and makeup specialist at the acclaimed Valery Joseph Salon, shares her tips for matching the right makeup for your hair color to ensure it stands out:

  • Platinum blondes should stick to the cooler tones. Stay away from copper and orangey colors. Choose cooler colors for eyes (silver or taupe). Pinks and blue-reds for lips and cheeks balance the hair shade best.
  • Golden blondes should choose peaches and pinks for cheeks/lips. Mauves, pinks and purples are good for eyes.
  • Beach blondes (with warmer highlights) need warmer tones like honey and caramel. Golden colors are also very nice. These colors are good for eyes, cheeks and lips.
  • Dark haired people have a larger color palette to choose from. Berries, wines, burgundies, mauves, plums and even lighter shades of pinks and metallics are all good for lips. Eyes shades like navy blue, grays and purple enhance the eye color. You can even go darker with brown and black for a smokey look.
  • All hair colors can wear a smokey eye. You just use shade for your color. Darker hair shades can go a little more dramatic.

For Fall/Winter Makeup trends, Rachel notes what will be “in” this season:

  •          Cat- eyes are huge
  •          Orangey and copper tones on eyes
  •          All shades of purple (deep, brownish purple, purple and plums)are big this season on eyes
  •          Pearly, glittery smokey eyes and dark smokey eyes have been all over the runway
  •          Grays - misty soft washes of gray all over the eye
  •          Lips are all over from deep semi stains in wine, red or burgundy to really gloss
  •          Skin is luminous finished

Winter Hair as the weather turns colder... you are inside more... the dry heat is on in your house and work... and car... oh and don't forget most of us are blow drying our hair every time it is washed...  which all just equates to a bombardment of dry heat.   I am sure if you are anything like me and live in a colder climate, your hands are dry, lips are dry and hair has definitely looked better.

There are a few tips to helping your hair from look as dried up as you feel :)

1. Stay hydrated- drink plenty of water even though you are not in the sun all day your body still needs Water!

2. Wash your hair every other day- if you feel like your hair is looking limp... put a little bit  of dry shampoo at the roots ( just a bit)... brush through and go :)

3. Make sure you are protecting your hair before you dry it.  After you get out of the shower, use a leave-in condition.  See my blog about Leave-in Conditioners

GUEST CONTRIBUTOR ALERT!

Hope all of you FABULOUS readers had a great Thanksgiving! Today we are happy to introduce a new guest contributor, Victoria. She is a health & beauty writer for Direct Sight (an online glasses retailer). Today Victoria talks about an important topic most people tend to avoid. Enjoy :)

**************************************************************

So as November progresses and December looms, we all know that the days will get shorter and colder. However, when we turn up the central heating and pull on a warm winter coat, is it worth considering any other precautions? Sunlight and, in particular, UV rays are the single biggest cause of skin cancer. In addition, other unpleasant side effects of sun exposure include premature aging, wrinkles and age spots. Most of us will wear a scarf, or maybe even a hat during the winter months, but our faces remain exposed to the elements. Therefore, it’s important to take a few added precautions for skin and eyes in the colder season.

Firstly, it is worth investing in a light sun-protection for the face. It may seem excessive, but UV rays can prove just as dangerous, despite the cold. Up to 80% of UV radiation can also penetrate clouds, meaning gloomy days are deceptive when it comes to skincare. For women, look out for foundations and tinted moisturisers with an added SPF such as Olay Essentials Complete Care Touch of Max Factor Foundation which is a light moisturising cream ideal for the daytime. Many top brands now include SPF 15 in the formulas. However, it is important to remember to cover the entire face to ensure you gain the optimum level of protection.
