Hair stitching works best on hair with a bit of texture, Graziella recommends washing hair the day before your styling, or if you’re working with squeaky clean strands, she uses a dry shampoo such as Kerastase K Line Powder Bluff to add “next day hair” texture before styling. It keeps hair looking freshly washed and leaves no powder residue!

STEP-BY-STEP

1) Apply a heat protectant such as Kerastase’ Fibre Architect with fingers before and after curling hair for extra shine and protection.

2) Next, curl hair in medium sized sections using a 1 to 1 ½ inch curlingCurl the entire head - Graziella advises working to achieve “natural, not structured curls” by gently pulling and loosening cooled curls.

Do it yourself or go to a salon? When I want to change my hair this question always crosses my mind. Not that I would ever attempt to cut it on my own, but for other treatments, I always consider the more affordable at-home option. However, there are many benefits offered at a salon that you just can't replicate at home. So when you do choose to go to a salon, you want to make sure you enjoy your experience, because it really is that, an experience, not just a service. When I go to a salon, I want to walk out of there feeling like a million bucks! I want a significant change done with my hair and I want to feel good about it! Certified Fabulous recently took a trip to New York, and we had the opportunity to stop by De Berardinis Salon on W 21st Street. The whole million bucks experience I'm talking about? Definitely got it here!

Before our New York trip, I was looking into the different types of smoothing treatments to help the frizziness/coarseness of my hair that bothers me so much. But it's hard to know which treatment is right for my hair type, and I don't want to damage it (it's already colored multiple times). So when I heard De Berardinis offered a smooth out that's gentle and safe for your hair, I was all for it! The treatment is called Pravana's Perfection Smooth Out. It contains no formaldehyde, and is shea butter & amino acid based, making it gentle and safe for your hair. The whole process takes about 3 hours, as there are many steps. Here's a breakdown of the treatment process:

Phase 1:

- Hair is washed with a clarifying shampoo

Hi Everyone and welcome to 2013... Can you believe it!  So I guess the Mayans were wrong and we still have a few years left here on Earth huh?  Well what's a beauty rock star to do?  Hit the spa of course!  This week we've all been talking about salon treatments.. what works and what doesn't work.  Is it worth the money to go or can I just do the same at home.  For many things, yes you can, but sometimes someone else rubbing your tired, overworked puppies is well worth it!  In my years I have been lucky enough to experience the good, the bad and the down right nasty of spa life.  So I thought I would share a couple pointers I've learned.

1)  What experience are you looking to have at the spa?  Are you looking for just a quick waxing or are you looking for a relaxing, aromatherapy experience?  Set your expectations before you walk in the door.  Even if you're just going in for a quick wax, but still want a relaxing day, choose accordingly.

2)  Do your research on the spa.  Many people take the time to write up reviews on their experience on the spa and sometimes if you're lucky they'll write about the therapist they used.  It's amazing what you can find out about places with a little google search.

3) When choosing a treatment, do your research before your appointment. Each spa perform treatments differently.  I would recommend calling ahead and asking, what products they use, how they use them, are there any side effects you should be concerned about?  Once you're there and in the chair, feel free to ask questions to the therapist about the procedure.  This is your body remember!!  They are there for your enjoyment, not the other way around.  If something doesn't feel right or hurts, let them know.

4) Most spas will give you a walk through for first timers and show you around and introduce you to the facility.  If they don't, ask for one.  Remember you're a paying customer and if you don't feel comfortable or it's dirty, you can always walk out.  Follow your gut instinct and don't feel guilty.

Salon Treatments are not only fun, but sometimes it is just best to leave our beauty regiment to the professionals. Here are some instances where there may be great home products available, but I highly recommend going to a Salon.

1. Hair styling- Do it yourself hair cut is just never the same

2. Make-up for an important event (like your wedding day) and or to help you create a new look or expand your current look

3. Waxing (well at least some areas, like the bikini)

4. Professional grade Chemical Peels (find a great aesthetician)!
