"While beauty absolutely matters, it doesn't matter absolutely"

I love this philosophy from Soap & Glory; the purveyors of fabulous bath, beauty, and body products. Their fun-loving names like Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Stick and The Fill Monty, Instant Facial Line Filler really sets them apart in the market. But aside from fun names and unique packaging, it's the effectiveness of their formulations that truly make them stars.

I've written in the past of my love for ChapStick, the classic old standard, simple lip balm. Well ladies, I've found a new favorite. Soap & Glory's A Great Kisser Juicy Peach Lip Moisture Balm. Made with mango and apricot butter for moisturization and protection and a juicy peach scent that will make you lip smack all day long.

I find a little goes a long way and the best part? It stays on your lips without being sticky, too waxy or heavy. I love the smooth texture and just the right tint of color for these natural rosy lips. It comes in a perfectly sized tin too, about $10.

Considering that people today are finding ways to save money without depriving themselves of comforts and luxuries, it is unsurprising that many consumers would look at the prices first when choosing skin care products. Although it is indeed a major consideration, the price of the product should not be your main criterion.

Look for skin care products that have been made specifically for your age group instead. This way, even if it's not the most expensive one around, it can still provide you with the nourishment and protection you need at present (and in preparation for the future).

Teens and 20s

The common skin problems people experience during these years are acne, pimples, and skin discoloration (not necessarily freckles). Young people also tend to have active lifestyles and spend a lot of time outdoors. They therefore need to use the following skin care products or products:

  •  Sunblock lotion and facial cream with a high SPF value  – to provide protection against harmful UV rays
  •  Facial cleansers (foaming or with microbeads) – to remove deep-seated dirt, dead skin cells, and excess oil from the skin.
  •  Anti-bacterial cleanser – to get rid of pimple-causing bacteria.
  •  Spot treatment cream for pimples – direct treatment for acne or pimples (ideally, this must be recommended by a dermatologist).
  •  Moisturizer – for the body and the face. It is never too early to start putting on skin moisturizer!

Is a perfect day for you a Sunday when you get up with the family and have nothing to do all day but hang out and relax? Or do you consider a perfect day when you went to work in a good mood and your day only got better with successful jobs you accomplished? Well no matter what that perfect day looks like for you, it starts the same way for all of us? The simple thought - What will today have in store for me? That is exactly where Cleanlogic comes into the game. They are stating that “ Cleanlogic’s body care line leaves your skin feeling clean, smooth and nourished. Its formulas are enriched with Nopal cactus extract, known for its soothing properties and natural extracts to moisturize and help rejuvenate skin.”

When we got the Cleanlogic Exfoliating Bath and Shower Mitts into our office I was the first one to say that I wash cloth finalwould love to try it. I love taking a warm, relaxing bath at night. And those of you who take a bath often know that when the water is very warm, which I think is nice, your skin gets irritated. Well the Cleanlogic Exfoliating Bath and Shower Mitt helped amazingly. It gently scrubs and rejuvenates your skin. A lot of wash cloths feel way too soft but this one is just perfect. It leaves you with a true feeling of relaxation and cleanliness.

A perfect ending to an hopefully perfect day…

Hello everyone,

Linnea checking in again from the Windy City. Although the last couple of days have been in the 60's and 50's in Chicago (ahh!) it quickly dropped back down to the 3o's and it's starting to feel more like real December weather. The short spurt of warm wind was a nice change in pace, but I think it was the last of the better weather days that I will see for a long while. So with that being said, I am still dealing with my typical winter dry skin and dry hair/scalp. A dry scalp has been a problem for me for quite a while - I'm always trying out new shampoos in an attempt to find something that soothes and moisturizes both my scalp and my hair, especially during the winter months. The leave in conditioner that I have been using recently (check out the blog - Acure Leave In Conditioner) has been working great on my ends and the rest of my hair, but I still need moisture directly on my scalp.

Well this week I didn't find a shampoo, but instead it's a hair and scalp treatment - Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Hair and Scalp Treatment. I'm sold on this product and plan to try the Tea Tree Oil Shampoo and Conditioner to get even more of this loveliness. I use this every other day on my hair after my normal shampoo. Unlike regular conditioner, I can massage this directly onto my scalp as well as the rest of my hair. This treatment moisturizes, soothes my scalp, leaves my hair really soft, and smells amazing! With tea tree oil, peppermint, and lavender the scent is both relaxing and refreshing. I haven't used any other shampoo/conditioner that feels and smells so fresh! Even though it's a thick conditioner consistency, when I massage it into my scalp and rinse it out well, my hair does not feel weighed down or greasy - but make sure to rinse it out well, otherwise it can feel a little thick. If you tend to use dandruff shampoo for a dry scalp, I recommend giving this a shot instead - it smells so much nicer and has very soothing ingredients such as soy proteins, vitamin E, and shea butter to repair and protect the hair as well as willow bark to soothe the skin.

So with this Tea Tree Oil Hair and Scalp Treatment along with the Acure Leave In Conditioner, I think I have found my weapons to combat dry hair/scalp this winter! Have a great weekend!

Linnea

This week we are talking about winter hair remedies and as you know, I have natural curly hair and in the winter, although healthy, it tends to be drier due to the heat, either from the woodstove or the car, office, etc. So every few weeks, I treat it with a deep conditioner or a leave-in conditioner, hot oil treatment, etc.

I recently tried a unique 3 step process for curly hair from DevaCurl. The Deva 3-step system cleanses, hydrates and styles leaving my hair naturally gorgeous and frizz free.

The DevaCurl 3-step system is also 100% sulfate, paraben & silicone free which makes this color-treated, dehydrated, curly head very happy.

Step 1 No-Poo zero lather conditioning cleanser – That’s right, this ‘non shampoo’, is a thick, rich cleansing cream enriched with a blend of botanicals and super moisturizing ingredients.

Step 2 One condition ultra-creamy daily conditioner – Just like it describes, this ultra-creamy daily conditioner works through water soaked curls to provide maximum moisturization.

Who doesn't want soft, silky hair during the winter months?  With Neutrogena Triple Moisture Silk Touch Leave-In Cream, we get what we want! Moisture is so important during the cold, dry season and since we can't just sit in a steam room all day, we need assistance.   I have curly, frizzy, color-treated but otherwise healthy hair and this cream is great at keeping the flyaways... well, away.

The triple moisture system comes from naturally derived extracts like olive, meadowfoam seed and sweet almond. Olive penetrates to the center of the hair strand while meadowfoam seed brings the moisture to the silky hairmiddle and sweet almond covers the surface.  With daily use, I've really noticed a difference in the humidity level of my hair.

You only need a small amount spread evenly through-out hair and it immediately gets absorbed and starts to protect your hair, especially the dry ends.  It's lightweight, non-greasy and smooth!  I simply style as usual after applying and my hair is soft, silky and my natural curls stay manageable all day.

I love the added benefit of UV filters to this leave-in treatment as well.  I don't have to worry about sun damage.

So remember to moisturize your hair this season but more importantly, take care of yourself.
