While you don’t need Arnold Schwarzenegger’s arms to stay fit and healthy, there is no question that becoming a couch potato victim will negatively impact your health. According to Celebrity Fitness Expert Dr. Raj, a nationally recognized Double Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon at the Beverly Hills Orthopedic Institute, engaging in a few simple exercises can greatly prevent injury or the need for future surgery.
“It is a misnomer that joint replacement is primarily reserved for overworked athletes,” says Dr. Raj. “Many patients are in need of surgery down the road due to great lengths of inactivity, such as spending years behind a desk.”
Below are Dr. Raj’s simple exercise tips for staying fit:
- Don’t Forget to Stretch: Each morning when you rise and shine, there is a reason why your first inclination is to stretch before rolling out of bed. “Stretching not only lengthens muscles, it improves circulation which helps to release toxins,” says Dr. Raj. “To prevent injury, stretch both before and after physical activity.”
- Walk Whenever Possible: Believe it or not, walking each day will keep the doctor away. The 10,000 steps campaign suggests that a daily count of thousands of paces has various long-term health benefits. “While walking alone isn’t going to win any body building competitions, 20 minutes of daily walking is the single best thing you can do for your health,” adds Dr. Raj.
- Take the Stairs: Rather than riding the escalator or elevator, climb up the stairs. Walking up a flight of stairs strengthens the heart and lungs and burns calories as well. Even as little as one flight of stairs is better than no movement at all.
- Hit the Green: Weight bearing exercises (including golf) are the key to building bone mass which has been proved to postpone osteoporosis and arthritis. From swinging those clubs to walking between holes, a day out on the golf course is good for both body and mind.
It is no secret here at the Certified Fabulous office that I am a health freak. I belong to the Crossfit cult, participating in intense Crossfit workouts up to 5 times per week. I run a few days a week in addition to my Crossfit obsession. I eat very clean, sticking to a primarily Paleo diet (no dairy, no sugar and no grains). So when I was given Smooth 8 Cleansing Water Drops, I was anxious to see if I saw any benefits, as my diet and lifestyle are pretty healthy. I did notice some changes and was pleased with the results I noticed after using this product daily for 2 weeks.
The body has to have a balanced pH like most living things on earth or it does not function correctly. The alkaline level is very important because research has already proven that disease cannot survive in an alkaline state and yet they thrive in an acidic environment. The pH scale is how we measure how acidic or alkaline something is. Foods like soda, coffee, lemon juice and vinegar are acidic. But what exactly do acidic and alkaline mean? Well something that is acidic has a low pH, anything from 0 up to pH 7 is acidic, and anything above 7 up to 14 is alkaline. Smooth 8 Cleansing Water Drops with its alkaline level of 9.9, naturally neutralizes all the acidity in your beverages with just a few drops. The result is a soothing, tasty alkaline tonic, stocked with powerful antioxidants that will help you remove stored acids and toxins from your body.
Using Smooth 8 is easy. I added 20 drops to my water bottle three times a day. This transformed my water into a soothing alkaline, antioxidant tonic. I noticed after using Smooth 8 daily for 2 weeks that my skin looked amazing. I have relatively clear skin, but I noticed that any small breakouts I usually encounter disappeared completely. I also noticed less stomach acidity (yes, I am an avid coffee drinker). Using Smooth 8 helped to detoxify my body, gave me clearer skin and I love love love that its provided me with a daily dose of Antioxidants. If you are thinking about doing a fall cleanse, or are concerned with the Ph levels in your body, I urge you to try Smooth 8 Cleansing Drops!
Your Cuticles are extremely important to the healthy growth of your nails. The cuticle covers the base of your nail where the growth is generated. That being said, it’s very important that the growth area under your cuticles stays healthy.
1) Practice gently pushing your cuticles back:
Don’t push too hard as you want to avoid injury or irritation to your nail growth area. Some people use a wooden orange stick. I use a soft emery board that was designed to buff the nail. I gently push back on my cuticles once a week when I do my manicure.
2) Keep your cuticles soft:
The cuticle is just skin. If your cuticles appear dry or cracked, they need to be moisturized. Any lotion you would use on your hands you can use on your cuticles. Just add a dab of your favorite lotion to your cuticle area and gently massage in. When I wash dishes I wear gloves. The gloves keep my hands / cuticles away from the dehydrating agent in the dish detergent. If you use nail polish remover make sure that its acetone free. The acetone is a drying agent that can wreak havoc with your cuticles....
I have recently tried some extraordinary products by Zotos. I have fine straight color treated hair with visible signs of aging. I use blow dryers, rollers, curling irons you name it. My hair has over time started to loose that healthy vibrant look.
I am so thrilled that I have found a solution the Zotos products have that addressed all of these issues. My hair never looked better…brilliant
The anti aging color preserve system is fantastic after just a month of using these products I started getting more & more compliments about my hair.
The sheen is back it looks healthier and much easier to manage. It is gentle and effective, at times after shampooing I fond globs of hair on my shower floor, I thought that was how it supposed to be… NOT
I love that hint of a tan!! I feel as though I look better & healthier - especially in the winter when you start to get that grayish pallor. I try so many different types of sun free tanners, tan towels, cream for the face or body, sprays lotions etc.
The Infinity Sun – Glow On The Go spray tan is a light weight formula no unpleasant scent, sprayed easily did not dry out my skin I think because it does not contain any alcohol....
Hello Friends and welcome to Friday!
This week we've been talking about hair treatments and how to fight off Old Man Winter from destroying your precious locks. Who says you can't have beautiful Rapunzel like hair in the middle of winter? The first image that popped in my head was Demi Moore from a few years ago, when her hair was super long and super healthy. All of the media and fashion industry wanted to know what her secret weapon was. Obviously she'd come a long way since GI Jane!
As I've mentioned before, I push my hair to the limit and yes, there are days when i know it hates me and refuses to cooperate. Thank God beenies and knit caps are in! My hair is thin and long, but I refuse to give in and let it get out of control and nasty. One trick I learned from my hair angel, is before I put my board in the water, is slather on a hair mask to the ends. She says that it seals the ends and stops the salt water from getting in and drying them out. So what's my weapon of choice? well... it's Obliphica Treatment Hair Mask. I love this stuff. Not only does it smell delicious, but it leaves my hair so soft and healthy, you'd never know the abuse I put my hair thru.
I know that as a single mom I will use the excuse from time to time, "I don't have the time to (fill in the blank)." Especially when it comes to beauty treatments. It's not like I can go to the grocery store with a detox mask on my face... although funny, probably not completely socially acceptable. But one of the great things about a hair mask, is you can rock an up bun (think Kim Kardashian or Jenny Lopez) at work all day and no one will know you've had a hair mask in. Score! No excuses for healthy, happy hair!

Winter is upon us! In fact, here in the east coast we now have snow on the ground! Just because it's winter though I don't want to look like I have flat, dull winter skin...so my product love I turn to for a glowing appearance is Benefit: "that gal" brightening face primer.
Oh Benefit, you have done it again...can you make a bad product?? I probably have your whole collection in my house...and without a doubt I never think twice when I need something to give my face a vibrate glow because "that gal" is the ultimate! It's an ideal face primer because it is not slippery or greasy feeling like most makeup primers. It actually feels like a lotion and has a gorgeous pink hue that glides onto the face and blends in perfectly. Once you apply your foundation the glow is subtle and just the right amount of sheen to look healthy and not over done.
The packaging is an easy twist up tube/bottle that releases product through a bunch of holes on the top. This is great to swipe a finger over it to get the product and put on your face or sweep directly on your face in a sanitized fashion...no dirty fingers in a jar.
Something new that I found at The Makeup Show in Orlando, Florida I just brought home with me is a skin shimmer from the brand CARA. CARA has an amazing luminous glow shimmer (I have the "atlantis" color) that goes on so easy, smooth and super light weight! When I applied this to my skin I instantly and naturally was glowing! I'm obsessed with this stuff! I am confident that I will look glamorous all winter :)
The packaging is very beautiful and almost like a nail polish with a spatula applicator, which is great to transfer to your hand or face for direct application. You can use this alone or under foundation and it can also be applied on the body. It's perfect as a cheekbone highlighter too! So many different ways to use this product to keep you looking healthy no matter what the winter will throw at you. I am SO happy I found out about this brand and this product. They also have a bunch of other lovely cosmetic products and perfect shades for bridal makeup. (www.caracosmetics.com) I will be sure to keep you updated on this brand and their product line....
