While you don’t need Arnold Schwarzenegger’s arms to stay fit and healthy, there is no question that becoming a couch potato victim will negatively impact your health. According to Celebrity Fitness Expert Dr. Raj, a nationally recognized Double Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon at the Beverly Hills Orthopedic Institute, engaging in a few simple exercises can greatly prevent injury or the need for future surgery.

“It is a misnomer that joint replacement is primarily reserved for overworked athletes,” says Dr. Raj. “Many patients are in need of surgery down the road due to great lengths of inactivity, such as spending years behind a desk.”

Below are Dr. Raj’s simple exercise tips for staying fit:

- Don’t Forget to Stretch: Each morning when you rise and shine, there is a reason why your first inclination is to stretch before rolling out of bed. “Stretching not only lengthens muscles, it improves circulation which helps to release toxins,” says Dr. Raj. “To prevent injury, stretch both before and after physical activity.”

- Walk Whenever Possible: Believe it or not, walking each day will keep the doctor away. The 10,000 steps campaign suggests that a daily count of thousands of paces has various long-term health benefits. “While walking alone isn’t going to win any body building competitions, 20 minutes of daily walking is the single best thing you can do for your health,” adds Dr. Raj.

- Take the Stairs: Rather than riding the escalator or elevator, climb up the stairs. Walking up a flight of stairs strengthens the heart and lungs and burns calories as well. Even as little as one flight of stairs is better than no movement at all.

- Hit the Green: Weight bearing exercises (including golf) are the key to building bone mass which has been proved to postpone osteoporosis and arthritis. From swinging those clubs to walking between holes, a day out on the golf course is good for both body and mind.

The weather's warmer, you're getting more active, why not push yourself even further and really start to feel good about your activity level. It's not easy to do on your own, and there's always the "I'll do it tomorrow" excuse that prevents you from really maintaining an active lifestyle. But if you have Fitbit, today counts for today and there's no putting it off. I recently got a Fitbit and I love it! I never really knew why they had become so popular, and I sort of viewed them as a fad that would blow over and onto the next fitness device. But I think this one will be around for a while and I certainly plan on using it for a good amount of time.

So what is Fitbit? Fitbit has a handful of advanced products that will track your activity level and your sleep. I currently have the Fitbit Flex - wireless activity tracker & sleep wristband. This slim wristband tracks your steps, distance, calories burned during the day, active minutes,  and will track the hours you sleep and your sleep quality during the night. I sync my Fitbit to my phone (just download the app and follow the steps to set up), so that I can check my progress throughout the day. I can also sign in and check my stats on Fitbit.com.Fitbit

This little wristband holds me accountable - if I don't do anything active that day, it will reflect. But if I reach my daily steps, it will provide a celebratory buzz & light up, letting me know I've reached my goals for the day. Wear it everyday and you can gain a good sense of your activity level. I work in an office setting, and am mostly at my computer during the day, so I wasn't getting a lot of steps. I knew that my activity level was low, but to see it reflected in the counts of steps and even in a graph, made me really push myself to get out for a walk or run after work to get closer to my daily goals. I knew that I should be doing some type of physical activity after work, but nothing was really pushing me to do so. Now I check my steps every day and actually want to reach my goals. I get competitive, even with myself and this little tracker. I want to do better and see my steps count up, raise my activity level and burn more calories. And the only way to increase those numbers, if by being active!

I find the Fitbit Flex to be very motivating. You are working with and against yourself. I always want to do better than the day before, and even if that doesn't happen, it pushes me to work harder for the days to come. Fitbit also awards you with daily, weekly or lifetime achievements. When you reach a new goal, you are awarded with a badge! Just another way to recognize your hard work! And if you're really competitive, you can share and compete with friends. You can compare stats and see how you rank against friends in the number of steps.

Fitbit Flex will also track your sleep and sleep quality. Wear it throughout the night and it will track the number of times you Fit bit blueare restless and the times you are awake. It gives you a good understanding of how well/poorly you sleep, and you can make your own adjustments to sleep better. For me, I always thought I was getting a good 8 hours - which I really need to function well the next day - but my Fitbit was showing me that I usually get seven and a half hours, due to the number of times I wake up and am restless. Another great aspect: you can set silent alarms! The Fitbit will gently buzz to wake you up. I hate alarm clocks and I hate waking up, but with the silent alarm, I wasn't startled by a loud alarm, and I woke up every time I used the silent alarm feature.

It’s no secret how much I love working out. As much as I try to stick to a Paleo diet routine, my love of sugar and carbs is my biggest downfall.  I know how to get the nutrition needed in order to be a beast in the Crossfit gym, but who has the time? And let’s face it, I don’t have the discipline either (it’s easier to just grab something than meal plan and cook 3 meals a day).  So when Stay Young Age Support Multi-vitamin & Ultra Sexy Hair, Skin and Nails came my way, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to incorporate a supplement into my otherwise lacking daily diet.

It can be difficult to create a vitamin routine, and these supplements need to be taken twice a day. I forced myself to remember to take the Stay Young Age Support Multi-vitamin (3) twice a day for a week, and I felt AMAZING!! My energy levels increased and I didn't feel the need to consume that 2pm cup of coffee.  My stomach is usually very sensitive and get queasy when taking a multivitamin, so I made sure to eat before taking my vitamins.  However, one day I forgot and instead of taking them right after lunch, I remembered to take around 3pm. I was pleasantly surprised to find that they did not affect my stomach at all, and I enjoyed the energy boost for the remainder of the afternoon. I love that these vitamins are complete and even contain wonderful extras such as C0-Q10 , Ginkgo, Lycopene and RNA to name a few.

Essential-Multivitamin stay young antiaging rev iew certified fabulous

Stay Young Ultra Sexy Hair, Skin and Nails only has to be taken once a day, and I would take these 3 supplements along with the Stay Young Age Support Multi-vitamin in the morning. Within the week I noticed my nails were stronger than ever, and my skin looked clearer.  I think the combination of these 2 amazing products really helped me maintain a greater level of energy and health. I've been performing better than ever in the gym, and plan on maintaining this vitamin routine!!

You can find the vitamins HERE to buy for yourself!

Zumba has been around for a while now and although I didn't pick up on the craze from the beginning I decided to get into it now, since I love to dance and it didn't involve back-aching floor workouts. I have walked by a class before at the YMCA but it didn't seem as intense as I would want so I didn't bother. Until I looked at the class schedule to discover they have different levels of the class! After going on their website, www.zumba.com, I have found out they actually have a lot of different types of Zumba classes, which was very exciting, not to mention a whole clothing collection and tons of useful information! I saw that my YMCA offered a moderate Zumba class so I decided to attend.

I was so ready for the class, dressed in my new, and very stylish Zumba Wear clothing I felt the part...now the test was to see if I could fit the part! The instructor was a very outgoing and nice lady that looked totally in shape so I was excited to think that I could achieve my Zumba body by continuing the classes...but first I had to get through the first one. The music started and it was hits that play on the radio now so I immediately got into it. The steps were explained very well as we navigated through the first song. It was non-stop cardio fun, I felt like I was a backup dancer for a Britney Spears or Nicki Minaj concert.  I've done hip hop dance classes before and loved them, so I instantly loved this Zumba class...even if it was way more intense!

Zumba wear Carpe white borderI had on my Zumba Wear "Carpe the Hell Out of This Diem" t-shirt which was the most comfortable shirt to wear while sweating it out! The material was perfect and was loose to be able to allow me to move in all sorts ways for each dance. I also felt very fashionable which always helps build that self esteem up, especially in a workout class where your trying to learn dance steps and sweating your a** off! If you check out the website and all the clothing they offer (a ton) then you would know how hard it is to not want to buy everything, hah. I loved the styles and colors of the clothes, it fits the whole message behind Zumba, just have fun! Think of Zumba as a dance party and not a workout, which is really easy to do and you will burn calories (a lot) in a fun way. Not to say you won't get a workout, you will! It is hard and it's an hour long! I was looking at the clock on 30 minutes into thinking "it has to be an hour by now!" only to find out I still had a whole 30 minutes left to sweat, lol.

To sum it up Zumba made me feel good and it is very much worth the effort! I definitely will keep it up and I HIGHLY recommend you try it! They have different levels and intensities and you can always adjust any move to accommodate your level of fitness or work around any pre-existing injury you might have that physically limits you. The clothes are a HUGE plus when taking the clas, since they best know the level of movement and flexibility needed they make the clothes perfectly for it! I have the Zumba Wear Racerback Cosmic Blast in Orchard which is a nice color purple :) I will be adding on to my collection, the leggings look so cool! www.zumba.com

Have any of you taken a Zumba class before or have been doing it for a while?? FEEDBACK?
