If you think the best place for a brooch is at the bottom of your grandma’s jewellery box, think again. The pin is in, and it’s the key to sharp dressing this season. From Carrie Bradshaw’s larger-than-life floral corsage brooches to Kate Middleton’s classic silver maple leaf, brooches are back in a big way and are a must-have addition to your accessory archives. Here’s a look at some of the top trends for brooches we’re seeing at the moment:

Bridal Blooms

This wedding trend is giving brides the chance to add some extra-special sparkle to their big day with a bouquet that never wilts.

The brooch bouquet makes a beautiful (and earth-friendly) alternative to real flowers. A collection of gemstone brooches on long wire “stems” bound together in a bunch with stylish ribbons creates a unique jewellery bouquet that can be treasured for years to come, or dismantled to give each member of the bridal party a beautiful brooch as a wedding favour. Some brides are also choosing to add cherished family heirlooms to these glittering statement pieces, putting a new twist on “something old” when they walk down the aisle.

Gatsby Glam

Jazz Age flappers are this season’s “It” girls with the Golden Twenties roaring back into style. A geometric Art Deco brooch is just the thing to complete your vintage-inspired ensemble. Think sterling silver set with trendy marcasite and enamel to get that trending twenties look and channel your inner Daisy Buchanan. Pin it to a headband, throw on a string of pearls to match and you’ll be ready to dance the Charleston all night long!

Love that Lace

A lace brooch can add a beautifully feminine touch to any outfit, and it needn’t be restricted to your left lapel. Wear one of these perfectly pretty pins where it will make the most impact; up at your neckline, down towards your hemline, or even in your hair. Brooches also make great waistline accents to wrap dresses, or add an ornamental touch to plain tops and blouses. They’re also a great way of refreshing cold-weather accessories like hats and scarves with some much-needed sparkle on a gloomy day. Choose something small and delicate or opt for an outrageously oversized statement piece – whatever works best with your wardrobe.

Stars all over Hollywood are embracing the brooch trend, and there always seems to be a new way to wear these old favourites; fashionistas are pinning their brooches to handbags, belts and shoes, adding something eye-catching to every ensemble with one simple, style-savvy move. Tell us how you’ll be wearing your brooches this season!

I am scared to wear a brooch. But after reading this I think I might just find a great one and style it to my taste!
