Need Fall Hair Help? 6 Must-Haves to Prepare You!
We are into the fall. There may still be a few warmer days left, but it won't be long before the cooler days are here to stay. I'm not too upset. I love most things fall (fashion, sweaters, comfy socks, hats, scarves, apple picking, pumpkins, warm lattes...you get the picture). It's not until the end of fall and the bare winter months set in that I get peeved with the weather. Fall beauty is also something to relish in; rich makeup colors and textures, products that wrap your skin in soothing formulations, hairstyles that just wouldn't work in the summer, etc.
My hair tends to be on the frizzy, coarse (annoying) side. I usually straighten or curl my hair in order to smooth out those stubborn coarse pieces. But in the summer, it's usually too hot and humid to 1) deal with the heat from the styling tools 2) for the hair style to stay flawless through the humidity and not return to it's puffed up, messy state. But when the fall comes, I can style my hair and have it stay!
I have been going through a routine of use certain products that definitely have helped the health and style of my hair so far. The first product you'll want to pick up and use this fall is a hair mask. Help keep your hair smooth and nourished with a treatment once a week. I've been using U Renew Deep Treatment Masque by U Color formulated with Rooibos Tea. As with other U Color products, this masque will protect and preserve your color treated hair. But it will also moisturize, strengthen, help repair damaged hair and split ends. This masque is easy and will not take too much time; simply apply to wet hair, leave on 10-20 minutes, and rinse out thoroughly. I also looooved the scent. It's that powdery clean that I love so much, don't know why but I do.
If I wanted to blow dry and style my hair after using the masque, I then used the U Style Blow Dry Styling Lotion by U Color. In addition to protecting color, this styling lotion conditions, smooths, and adds shine to your hair. It also reduces blow-dry time, protects your hair from heat damage, protects your style from humidity, and will help define curls! As I style my hair more often in the fall, it is really important for me to use a lotion like this to help with my hair texture and protect my color treated hair. This lotion did not weigh down my hair at all, and it absorbed really well. It also has a clean scent (perhaps a hint of citrus?). When I blow-dried my hair, it felt protected and did not turn into a frizz-fried mess.
I addition to the U Style Blow Dry Styling Lotion, I also added Philip B Russian Amber Imperial Volumizing Mousse to my hair before drying it. And I loved it! My natural hair texture doesn't normally have volume issues (being thick and wavy/curly) but I recently had a smoothing treatment done so my hair has been a little more flat than I'm used to. This mousse came in handy to give my hair that extra oomph. It added fullness and glossy shine. But this mousse has another special talent...the Pure Russian Amber scent works as a hair perfume! Not only will your hair look great, but it will be scented perfectly. Just give your hair a toss, and the amber scent will catch the attention of whoever's around you ;)
Now, for the styling tools. If you use styling tools frequently, I recommend really looking into the different options out there, read their claims, and choose the tool that's best for your hair. It's worth the time and a little more money for a quality product that you'll use almost everyday. If you don't use heat styling tools all that often, there are still some great money saving options that are worth a try. I have been needing a new hair dryer for a while now, so when the Kiss Tornado 360 Heat Protection Air Booster 1857 Watt Ionic Hair Dryer came into the Certified Fabulous office, I was quite excited to try it out. What different about this hair dryer is that is has a patent pending rotating air booster. What will this rotating air booster do for your hair? It helps eliminate you having to shake your hair dryer as the spiral airflow reaches deep to your roots, quickly and effectively drying your hair. It also reduces frizz and helps create shiny hair. When I blow dry my hair, it is always poofy and frizzy. I've learned that that's just the way it is and I've come to terms with it. So I did not think that this hair dryer would be any different. And don't get me wrong, my hair was still frizzy, but when I really looked at how this product was working, I could see the difference. When I use other hair dryers and shake them constantly in order to thoroughly dry the roots, well my hair flies everywhere, in this half dry, frizzy mess. But when I don't have to shake the hair dryer so much, I was able to control and brush my hair as I dried it. It definitely helped the drying process, and my hair was not as poofy as it usually is. The rotating air booster also helped prevent spot heat damage; because it's turning you won't have that direct forceful heat burning part of your hair or scalp.
After blow-drying my hair, I chose to try out my new Kiss Silicone Styler Flat Iron (1 inch). This Flat Iron has two silicone bars that cushion your hair so that heat and pressure is distributed evenly through the hair strands. This helps your hair retain moisture and helps prevent heat damage. What I really liked about this Flat Iron is that I could still add a bit of a wave by rounding my strokes towards the end of my hair. Sometimes it's hard to create a bit of a wave with a flat iron, but this one was great to work with. The silicone bars really felt as though they were capturing each strand of my hair to smooth and straighten it. I also felt that it was a little more gently on my hair - less heat damage.
As with most things, this process (masque, lotions, drying, styling) takes time. If I'm running late, or don't want to shampoo my hair too often, I use the U Refresh Dry Shampoo by U Color. This Dry Shampoo will cleanse your hair without water, remove excess oil, add volume at the roots, help your style last a little longer, and revive limp hair to for a clean pick me up when your in a pinch! Simply section hair and spray the problem areas first (spray in short, quick bursts) and then buff powder with your fingers and fluff it out. My hair definitely feels clean and refreshed (major difference in oil on the surface - it seems to disappear) and its quick to give my tired hair some much needed fluff!
From treatments, to styling tools, these products have been great additions to my fall hair style and haircare!
