How I'm Prepping for my Chic Geek Wedding!
June 15th, 2013. My wedding day. I didn't grow up wishing to be a fairy princess and I definitely didn't grow up fantasizing about my wedding. The first time I put actual thought into my wedding was last year when my long-time boyfriend proposed to me on a road trip. We were in the mountains of Maryland and we watched the sunset together with our very unimpressed corgi, Ion.
Then we got in the car and continued to drive the remaining 8 hours home. (Hey, we had our hour of romantic tears, but we were on a schedule, don't judge!). Calling family and friends was one of the best parts of being newly engaged, but it got me thinking. Wait, how does one even plan a wedding? But now, with the help of my amazing sister/Matron of Honor/wedding planning guide, I'm ready for my big day in a few weeks!
In the beginning, my wedding was nothing but stressful. Honestly, I hated wedding planning to the point of tears. After a few weeks of this, my fiancé finally sat me down and made me stop. He made me vow that'd I do the wedding to please only us, and since then it's been pretty fun. And geeky. Our wedding Save the Dates featured us in our pajamas, our invitations made references to Star Wars, Doctor Who, AND Star Trek (we're getting married at a place called the Frontier. We had to include a reference to the "Final Frontier"!), and yes, converse will be making an appearance.
With my sonic screwdriver in hand, I was ready for June 15th weeks ago. But when it came to my wedding beauty, I was still a bit lost, so I researched and prepped and spent way too long walking up and down aisles and aisles of beauty products to bring you my list of the Pre-wedding beauty must haves!
Skin: Jergens Natural Glow Body Lotion. I am a very fair person, and with summer here I've been working on my tan to look my best for the big day. However, I started to fear about farmers tan and unevenness (I run and walk outside a lot in tank tops, t-shirts, 3/4 length shirts, sweaters, etc. and it always leaves me looking multi-colored by fall). Thank goodness for Jergens Natural Glow Body Lotion! I started using is a month or so ago and love it! You apply it once a day and unlike other self-tanners, this one is super gradual, giving you complete control over your tan! I have an large dark coloring on one of my arms that I just didn't put the lotion on, and it helped blend it in to the rest of my arm! I messed up on one leg, leaving half darker than the other. The next day I only applied lotion to the lighter half and voila! Problem solved. No more tanlines, no more imperfections, just a nice, even, natural looking glow (and everyone thinks it's just the joy!)
Teeth: Crest 3D Whitening Products. I love the whole set! My fiance and I have been using the Crest 3D White Arctic Fresh Toothpaste and Crest 3D White Arctic Fresh Rinse for several months now and love them! They taste great and leave our mouths feeling refreshed and clean. We could tell our teeth were whiter in just a week! For the past few weeks we've added Crest 3D White Whitestrips Advanced Vivid to our regimen for a big whitening boost before the wedding and love it! Our teeth are dazziling, just in time for all the photos!
Hands & Nails: Julep's Oxygen Nail Treatment, Mighty Nail & Cuticle Serum and Age Defying HandBrightening Cream. A year ago I had a vicious nail biting habit, and still do. But to curb my bad habit, I've been putting a ton of time and care into my nails. I figured I'd just re-direct my obsession into a more healthy (and flattering) one. Julep's Oxygen Nail Treatment keeps my nails strong and healthy looking in between colors. Plus the clear shine means my nails always looked groomed. The best part is the treatment takes five minutes to dry so it's what I do if I don't have time to give myself a full blown manicure. The serum has been keeping my cuticles looking their best and the Brightening Cream not only smells amazing, but is giving my hands a soft healthy appearance. These products have my ring finger ready for its close-up!
Legs: Gillette Venus razors are my favorite! And for my wedding I splurge and bought myself the Gillette Venus & Olay
cartridges. Not only do they fit on my old handle perfectly, but my legs have never been smoother! I'm thoroughly addicted to these! My beautiful colleague Stacey already reviewed these amazing razors, so for more detail, click here to read her review. After my shave, I've been using Whish Hair Inhibiting Gel Wipes. They smell like pomegranate and are super convenient. Just open the individually wrapped wipes and wipe down your just shaved legs. The gel causes hair to come back finer and slower, making future shaves less frequent and faster. They also have been helping with ingrown hair, so I've been using them on my armpits as well (strapless wedding dress and all...).
Hair: Philp B! I already reviewed them as a Mother's Day Gifts (Click Here to read my review), so I won't go into too much detail, but they're the best shampoo and conditioner brand I've ever used. And since it's for my wedding, I allowed myself the extra expenditure. I also plan on a Coconut Oil hair treatment a few days before the wedding to give my hair some extra moisture!
Face: Freeman Facial Hydration Mask in Goji Berry . What wedding prep is complete without a facial mask? This maks is perfect as a weekly treatment to start a few weeks before your wedding. It hydrates and soothes skin, ensuring that you're glowing at your wedding. My face tends to get red somewhat easily from using harsh products or just from daily sun/pollution exposure, and this mask helps even everything out. I added this to my normal toner/cleanser/lotion routine and definitetly saw the extra boost of healthy skin!
With the help of these products, I'm happy to say that I'm ready for my big day coming up next week!
