I am the proud mom of a wonderful 6 year old. She is smart and beautiful and I love her to bits. The only problem, she is going to be the pretty popular girl (I was not) once she gets to high school. She is in the first grade and already has a “boyfriend,” has been invited to no less than 15 birthday parties this school year so far, and is a self-described “popular girl.”  With all of this popularity comes the constant attention to detail when it comes to hair/clothes. Fortunately for me, she attends a private school, so its khakis and white polos every day. Because of this fashion conformity, Amelia makes a statement with her ultra-long hair. She loves her long hair and cries when I force her to get a half inch trim. Despite this, she is a typical 6 year old when it comes to the regular brushing needed to maintain this long hair. Thank goodness for Bain de Terre Coconut Papaya Ultra-Hydrating Hair Collection, which has saved her the torture of brushing out the snarls.

Bain de Terre Coconut Papaya Ultra-Hydrating Hair Collection certified fabulous zotos shampoo

Last weekend, after spending two days with her father, Amelia returned home to me a hot mess (see  picture below).  I was certain I was going to have to traumatize her by having her long locks chopped. Her hair reminded me of the homeless lady who wanders around town, who we always referred to “Beaver Tail lady,” as her hair was so dread-locked it resembled a beaver tail. I decided to attempt to rectify the situation myself before taking drastic-haircutting-measures. First, I washed her hair with Bain de Terre coconut papaya Ultra Hydrating Shampoo. This lovely shampoo contains wonderful essential oils that helped to hydrate her overly dry (caused by swimming in a heavily chlorinated hotel swimming pool all weekend) and obviously damaged hair. I loved the richness of this shampoo, and because it is paraben free I feel confident using this product on my child's hair.  The nourishing Coconut Oil, plus argan and monoi oil made shampooing an effective first step at remedying the horrible situation which was my child’s hair.

Bain de Terre Coconut Papaya Ultra-Hydrating Hair Collection certified fabulous zotos

Next, I slathered her hair with Bain de Terre coconut papaya Ultra Hydrating Conditioner. This conditioner is fortified with the same coconut, argan and monoi oils as the shampoo. This conditioner is indicated for those with overly dry and damaged hair. This conditioner is also paraben free, and helped to loosen the matted knots present in my little ones hair. I began to relax, gaining a sense of hope that after completing all three steps in this hair care collection, that I might be able to get a comb through the matted mess.

I have a soft spot in my heart for PEEPS®. I have always been a fan, and they have always been, hands down, my favorite Easter candy. Imagine my delight when I was given a big beautiful box full of Valentine’s Day PEEPS®!! I know, most women are excited for truffles and chocolates, but I must say, the new Valentine’s Day variety of PEEPS® will surely give the standard box of chocolates a run for some strong competition this Valentine’s Day.

The standard Marshmallow Heart PEEPS® are similar to the standard chicks from the ol’days, except they are pink and heart shaped. I almost went into sugar coma with these as I can’t seem to eat just one, and although there are many people who are partial to leaving PEEPS® open to the air until they get a bit hard. Not me, I love my PEEPS® soft and fresh, which means I usually consume the entire package in one sitting (I could share I guess, but I don’t). These were yummy, and provided me with a delightful sense of PEEPS® nostalgia.

Peeps Hearts 2.3.14

Dark Chocolate covered Raspberry flavored Marshmallow and Milk Chocolate flavored Marshmallow are two new varieties I had never tried before. These two flavors still have the nice crunchy sugary coating of regular peeps with a delightful hint of raspberry flavoring. And I can’t overlook the delicious chocolate coating on the bottom of these PEEPS®...yummy. PEEPS® are also offered in Vanilla Crème and Strawberry flavors as well for Valentine’s Day, Strawberry Crème can also be found dipped in dark chocolate.

My hands-down favorite PEEPS® in the new Valentine’s Day line-up is the Chocolate Mousse flavored Marshmallow Bears. These cute little bears also have the standard crunchy sugary coating which makes PEEPS® so delicious, but these PEEPS® have a very nice, creamy chocolate flavor which I just can’t get enough of. The Chocolate Mousse flavored Marshmallow Bears are just as good as a fine box of truffles in my mind. I loved them so much that I forced myself to share with my two daughters who declared that they love this flavor best of all as well. Mmmmmm, so yummy :)

Burt’s Bees is the coolest company ever. Started by single mom, and Maine native Roxanne Quimby in 1984, this company has grown immensely over the past 30 years. In 2012, as an interest in natural products continues to grow, the company Gud was born out of Burt’s Bees continuing desire to bring naturally wonderful products to consumers in a mass market retain setting.

Winters up here in Maine are long, dark and cold. My temperature reading in my car this morning was 1 degree on my way to work. Everything is covered in a thick sheet of ice. Being outside, even when the sun is shining, is painful most days. Most days, the only time I go out is to get into my car, with its heated seats on high. Inside, the furnace is constantly running, with the thermostat set at 65. The air inside becomes so dry, causing my skin to dry out. The only cure for cabin fever, and for dry skin, is to play spa day as much as possible. Orico London: Skin Brunch Kukui Rejuvenating Mask is a wonderful addition to my spa day fun.

Orico London Face Mask 6.28.13 Certified Fabulous

This mask is perfect for all skin types, but is especially suited for dry and dehydrated skin. The Kukui oil feeds skin with powerful antioxidants, adding radiance to even my dry and dull complexion. This wonderful mask also contains Macadamia, Mango and Coconut oils to nourish and hydrate. These oils are all natural, and many of the ingredients in this amazing mask are organic!! The Essential fatty acids in this rejuvenating mask nourish and replenish skin, a really nice benefit for my poor, dried out skin.

I applied a generous layer of this white mask to my face, being careful to avoid my eye and lip areas. I left the mask on, as directed, for 15 minutes. The mask smelled amazing; due to the wonderful blend of Orange and Tangerine Essential oils, which are very uplifting. After removing the mask, my skin felt amazingly smooth and refreshed. I was concerned that Skin Brunch may be drying, but was pleasantly surprised to find that I didn’t need to moisturize after removing, my skin felt soft, supple and nourished.

Orico London: Skin Brunch Kukui Rejuvenating Mask has quickly become one of my favorites. I love the natural and organic ingredients, the uplifting essential oils, and the powerful antioxidants which leave my skin so nourished and refreshed. This product will become part of my weekly deep cleansing routine!!

I made the mistake of coloring my hair for the first time when I was 20. What was I thinking?? I didn't have ANY gray hair at that time, I just wanted the stylish look of highlights (back then it was more like streaking). I remember bleaching streaks in my hair with my fabulous roomy Heath back in the day. I have since abandoned the light, highlighted look in exchange for a deep brunette, which I love. Regardless of which given hue I was in the mood for, I quickly realized the time and effort it takes to maintain good looking hair color. If you go lighter, you battle the horrible look of dark roots. If you go darker, you battle fading, and the bold look of silver against brunette. The expense of having hair professionally colored is great (I tried coloring my own hair at home once, which ended with me making an emergency visit to the hairdresser anyway). I have now found a way to extend my hair color, and I couldn't be happier.

Fading is such a problem when hair is a rich, dark brunette. Brown hair ends up looking washed out and dull. I use a shine pray when I style, but without product, my hair looks lifeless. Oxidation causes hair color, natural and chemically processed, to fade. Air, water, sun and even artificial light cause oxidation to occur and dull hair color is the result. Multiple color processes themselves are a reason why color fades too quickly. UV exposure, the most damaging of all environmental factors, also causes further damage and irregular absorption of pigment in the coloring process The way to stop oxidation is to create a barrier. This is why UV absorbing ingredients and antioxidants are important.

I noticed that my color stayed vibrant weeks after using Eufora Beautifying Elixirs Color Revive in Bold Brunette every couple of weeks..

Adding Eufora Beautifying Elixirs Color Revive to your favorite conditioner in the shower is a quick and easy way to revive your hair color. I recommend using the included gloves, in order to protect your hands from stains.   Simply leave the color on for 5 minutes and rinse thoroughly. You only need 2-4 pumps of Color Revive, and the bottle lasts for weeks and weeks. So simple to use, and the results are amazing. I highly recommend this product for those of you looking to revive your natural color, and for all of the rest of us who color to hide grays. It is a great product.

Stocking Stuffer Alert!

The holiday season is upon us, and the social calendar gets to be crazy!! I am usually quite understated in my style (I’m sure some would think this is an understatement), but when committed to various social events I try to make an effort. I am blessed with naturally strong and shapely nails, so an at-home manicure is a quick way for me to dress it up, and how much effort is a layer of lip gloss?? These two products are my go-to’s when I need a little dressing up, and I have two essentials I love this month.

Benefit Cosmetics Sugarbomb Ultra Plush Lip Gloss is a great lip gloss. I really like the soft squeeze tube, which isn’t messy in the least. I find that sometimes a wand in bottle creates a bit of a mess, but Benefit really got it right with this beautiful little tube. The custom designed tip makes application super easy. The fragrance of this gloss is really amazing, such a pleasant aroma. The shade “sugar bomb” is a really nice nude/pinky shade, which is pretty without being too dramatic. This gloss applies nicely, it is smooth and not at all sticky or tacky. I thought that the color lasted for a good amount of time for a lip gloss. I did not have to reapply as often as one might, although the fragrance and feel of this wonderful gloss makes me reach for it time and time again.

Ruffian Nail Lacquer in Delirium is one of the nicest nail lacquers I have ever used. The bottle and closure is super cool and trendy, the deco-inspired bottle makes for an easy grip, I was able to open the new bottle easily, even after applying a super rich hand cream. I chose Delirium because I love purple, so it was an obvious choice. I wasn’t expecting how electric this bright purple would look once it dried. Its super striking, and I received compliments every day while wearing it. This lacquer is super shiny when dry, I skipped the top coat because the shine was amazing. The high-gloss formula is also completely chip resistant. After a week I noticed the color waning, but not due to chipping (probably would’ve lasted longer with the recommended top coat). I can’t wait to try Ruffian Nail lacquer in other shades, I was so impressed by Ruffian!!

I have used and enjoyed Primavera products in the past, and have always been extremely impressed with the high quality of their skincare.  When given the opportunity to enjoy Primavera’s Energizing Ginger Lime products, I jumped at the chance. I was rewarded with the same amazing experience I have enjoyed with each and every Primavera product I have been lucky enough to try.

Primavera Energizing HandNailCream

My go-to hand crème is BioExperience Iced Apple Elixer hand Crème, which is amazing. I love the feel and fragrance.  Primavera’s Energizing Ginger Lime Hand and Nail Cream is as thick and rich, absorbing quickly without leaving a greasy feeling which many thick creams are known to do. This rich cream glides on easily, leaving my hands soft and moisturized for hours, even in the cold, dry climate which is Maine in the winter.  The addition of macadamia Nut Oil quickly restores the hydration in my skin, as well as fights free radical damage. So often I notice we show signs of aging in our hands, and I love how this cream helps combat these signs with organic Green Tea Extract, which is not only soothing, but also chock full of antioxidants which also protect against free radical damage. I keep this hand cream in my jacket pocket at all times, so I can enjoy and share the joy with others throughout the day.

Primavera Energizing BodyOêil

I love great bath oil. I’m a bit lazy when it comes to lotioning up after a shower, and with the dry winter climate I’ve been noticing an ashy hue to my skin which isn’t there during the rest of the year. This bath oil is supposed to infuse bathwater with a beautiful scent, but I find as a body oil, it works just as well. I love Primavera’s Ginger lime Bath Oil because it applies so easily, I apply as soon as I’m finished my shower after a light towel dry. This bath oil is not greasy at all, and absorbs quickly. The Jojoba Oil in this product moisturizes my skin leaving it nourished and protected. The Organic Olive Oil strengthens skins natural moisture barrier leaving my skin soft and supple all day long.

Josie Maran organic argan oil hair body beauty certified fabulous

Its no secret I love Argan Oil! My hair is so dry and frizzy, and Argan Oil is so readily absorbed.  So when I received Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil Light, I was thrilled to slather it through my hair. That is, until Jessica informed me that this product is to be used on my FACE, haha!! After feeling like a complete fool (although it worked wonders in my hair as well, FYI), I tried on my face and was delighted with the results. You really only need to use the barest amount of product, and it absorbed readily leaving my skin soft and silky. On the bottle it is indicated for use for everything from “cuticles to split ends.” What I loved most of all is that this amazing oil is 100% Organic!!

This Oil is produced by Moroccan women's co-ops. In 2002, the Moroccan government helped establish female cooperatives to manufacture Argan Oil. These programs provide women of rural Morocco with a steady income, a fair wage, good working conditions, as well as literacy and other education classes. Perhaps most importantly, the co-ops give women a keen sense of empowerment in this traditionally male-dominated society. I love that Josie Maran supports such a wonderful co-op, providing women with the opportunity to better themselves. So cool.

josie maran argan creamy concealer crayon beauty makeup certified fabulous

I loved the100% Pure Argan Oil Light for my hair and skin, so I was excited to also try Josie Maran’s Concealer Crayon. I use concealer every day to cover up my yucky (inherited) dark under eye circles. I love that this product is in a large crayon shaped tool which made application a snap.  I love that this concealer contains Sea Fennel Extract which diminishes the appearance of wrinkles and lines and stimulates cellular renewal. The Buckwheat Seed Extract in this product decreased the look of skin puffiness. Josie Maran Concealer Crayon is creamy, blendable and luminous and comes self-sharpening in its twist up tube. This concealer doesn’t contain any parabens, sulfates or phthalates which is super important to me, especially when I am putting product on my face.  My only concern was I had to be very careful to no break the tip of this concealer crayon. The formula is so soft, silky and blendable, if youre not careful you could easily break the tip off of your crayon, meaning less wonderful product to enjoy, so be mindful, and enjoy!!

PHYTO Paris- Phytodefrisant Botanical Hair Relaxing Balm

I get teased on a regular basis about my ponytail. Yes I will admit, I wear my medium-length hair in a ponytail 80% of the time, but in my defense, I have the frizziest hair imaginable, and it is impossible for me to wash my hair and go. I look like bozo the clown, so unless I'm willing to spend a good 20 minutes with my straight iron, its in a ponytail my hair must go. I am always seeking the best anti-frizz product, one that can be smoothed through my hair and makes the flat iron unnecessary. No luck, until now.

PHYTO Paris- Phytodefrisant Botanical Hair Relaxing Balm is a high end relaxing balm available at salons and high end stores (Sephora, Ulta). This hair care product is made with organic ingredients such as Althea Officinalis Root Extract, Salvia Sage Leaf Extract, Chamomilla Extract and Horseradish Root. These ingredients work together to protect hair from damage, with the application of heat, my hair has never looked smoother, especially with a hair smoother which does not contain any silicones!!!

It is very important to apply this product on damp hair, before blowdrying, the heat from the dryer activates this product and allows it to work its best. I have also applied Phytodefrisant Botanical Hair Relaxing Balm after I’ve finished styling, or on my dry hair the next day, for additional smoothing. This product is so lightweight and non-greasy feeling, but manages to smooth out the hair shaft, eliminating the frizz that so plagues me. In addition to its smoothing action, the innovative alcohol-free formula hydrates and strengthens hair without weighing it down. Such a great product, I would highly recommend it for your thick, coarse frizzy hair!!
