Are you a fan of eyelid primer? I must say, I never really used eyelid primer in my everyday routine, but as some of my eye shadows and liner began to fade throughout the course of my day, eyelid primer seemed like a good solution. And I am so glad I tried it! The Balm – Put A Lid On It Eyelid Primer works flawlessly to keep eye shadows bold, bright, and smudge free. So you just apply a little bit to030513 theblam put a lid on it eyelid primer certified fabulous your eyelids (lash line to eyebrow), and then apply your makeup as usual. The primer is a nude color and it absorbs well, leaving a smooth surface for you to apply shadow, etc. It did not crease or create any weird texture with my eye shadow, and the hues and my liquid liner stayed bold and smudge free all day! No touch ups, even for the eyeliner, was quite an accomplishment for me!! I have a feeling I will be using this product for quite a while…I might have found a new beauty addiction ;)

You can check out The Balm Put a Lid On It Eyelid Primer for $18

You can also try Clarins Instant Light Eye Perfecting Base on it’s own for an “instant radiance-booting effect” $25.00

Other eyelid primers you can pick up include NYX Cosmetics Eye Shadow Base for $7 or e.l.f. Essential Eye Primer for just $3.65!

Enjoy!

Liquid eyeliner! I am a frequent user of liquid eyeliner. I love the cat eye or classic Hollywood look, and I've found that the easiest way for me to achieve those styles is by using a liquid eyeliner pen. I think it's a personal preference as to whether you want to use a pen or a brush. I've found that I have more control with a pen and it is easier to create a thinner line if so desired.

Palladio's Felt-tip Eyeliner Pen is perfect for creating fine, delicate lines on the upper lash line. The felt tip is flexible but still sturdy -- I find that too flexible of a felt tip can sometimes be more difficult to control. The Palladio felt-tip is very thin, so you can apply very precise lines, and build on top of that if you are going for a thicker line. Once I had the style I wanted, it stayed as is for the whole day. The eyeliner is not waterproof, but it did not smudge or fade while I was wearing it. It also did not flake, a problem I have encountered with other liners. Overall, it has the staying power I like in eyeliner, and I especially the texture - it does not dry thick or smudge/flake off.

02252013 Palladio Felt Tip Eyeliner Pen Certified Fabulous

Interested in trying more felt-tip eyeliners? Up on the high - check out Yves Saint Laurent Eyeliner Effect Faux Cils Shocking - Bold Felt-Tip Eyeliner Pen. This can be found at Sephora for $32.00

You can check out Palladio Felt-Tip Eyeliner Pen for just $7.00

Hello everyone! I hope you are starting your week off well! I am well over winter and there’s still a long way to go :( But instead of focusing on the sad, I’ll write about something good… I have found my new favorite lotion! I thought I already had a favorite, but I was wrong! No7 Completely Quenched Moisturizing Body Lotion absolutely blew me away, and made me raise my lotion standards.

02192013 No7 Completely Quenching Moisturising Body Lotion boots certified fabulous

First off, this lotion did everything it claimed to do for me - “light airy and quickly absorbed, it vanishes into thirsty skin to quench and care all day long. Softens, smoothes and evens out texture to leave skin looking healthy and radiant.” Need I say more? Well this lotion actually pulls through. The scent is exactly what I like in a lotion; smells fresh, clean, and is not overpowering. The texture is not thick or greasy, instead it absorbs quickly into my skin (something I always look for in a lotion) and my skin stays moisturized all day. The really exciting thing about this lotion is that it smoothes out the texture of my skin. I have never used a body lotion that noticeably changed the texture of my skin, so I was quite surprised when my skin was the softest and smoothest it has ever been! On top of that my skin looks brighter and healthier! This lotion is also hypo-allergenic, so it’s great for those with sensitive skin. I can’t wait for this winter to end because I will be ready for those short shorts come spring/summer with this lotion as my weapon!

At $10.99 I will be buying this product again and again, but if you’re looking for a lower priced option, check out Vaseline Intensive Rescue Repairing Moisture Hypoallergenic Lotion for $6.99 at a local CVS or $3.59 on amazon.com.

Higher option - VMV Hypoallergenics Re-Everything Face-Hand-Body Lotion - which also helps to achieve younger-looking skin. This lotion is priced at $45.

Luxury! That’s the first thing I have to say about Branché Charmeuse pillowcase. Made of 100% mulberry silk, and enriched with amino acids to nourish your hair, it’s the perfect item to pamper yourself (or a loved one) with this Valentines Day!

I have wanted to try a silk pillowcase for a while since I’ve been hearing about the benefits it can have for your skin and your hair. My hair is always a tangled mess when I wake up in the morning, so anything that could help my hair while I slept, was much welcomed! Silk pillowcases are meant to help with hair breakage, smooth frizz, and extend the life of your hairstyle. They are also meant to prevent wrinkles, as they minimize morning facial creases.

So what did I experience? A good night’s sleep and an easier morning! I felt so spoiled sleeping on this gorgeous fabric but let me tell you, it was niiiice. The silk was much kinder to my hair and my face than my regular cotton pillowcases. I had less tangles in my hair in the morning, and it looked more tamed. For my unpredictable, wavy/sometimes curly hair, this was quite a feat. I haven’t been using the silk long enough to attest to it smoothing out frizz or helping with breakage, but I am definitely going to continue to use it and find out! I also woke up to crease free skin, meaning a less tired looking face! I’m always waking up late, so this was just one less thing to worry about while I’m rushing around in the morning. At first, I didn’t think crease-free skin would make such a difference for me, but when I used my regular cotton pillow again, I realized how nice the silk was treating my skin and that was that!

Branché Charmeuse cases are really one of the top products for silk pillowcases in my opinion ($95), but if you want to get the feel for a silk pillowcase to see if it’s something for you, there are a variety of silk options on Amazon for around $25.

These silk pillowcases also make great gifts, whether it’s for Valentines Day, Mother’s Day, birthdays, etc. So go on, indulge in this FABULOUS fabric!

As Valentines Day approaches, I'm sure you are all looking for some products to make you feel confident, pretty, sexy, and a little bit spoiled. It's Valentines Day so why not treat yourself right? For me, I'm always looking for a product that will satisfy my dry skin. Smooth, hydrated skin makes me feel rejuvenated and confident! So for this week I am very excited to talk about a couple of Bliss products.

For an entire body hydration treatment, I turned to Bliss High Intensity 24- 'Heaven' Healing Body Balm. For $35 (8oz) this moisturizes for 24 hours, and leave your skin silky smooth, healthy, and "gloriously soft." The balm is very rich and thick, which had me a little nervous as to how greasy it would feel, but to my delight grease was not an issue! The balm goes on as a rather thick layer when you first apply it, but it quickly absorbs into your skin without leaving a greasy residue. I was impressed; to be able to apply such a rich product and not have to deal with a greasy feeling was awesome! My skin felt hydrated all day and evening until my next shower. The balm smells sort of sweet when you first open it, but I did not find it to be overpowering when applied to my skin. Overall, the body balm is the extra boost of moisturization my skin needs, especially when my lotion isn't producing the same results.

Comparable body balms include:

African Botanics Marula Intense Skin Repair Body Balm. At $55 for 1.9fl oz, this 100% natural balm is "formulated to repair tissue damage, regenerate cells, reduce inflammation and redness while speeding up the healing process. Stimulates new cells and increases skin elasticity."

The Body Shop offers a variety of Body Butters for $20 (6.9oz) that provide moisturization for up to 24 hours. These body butters "melt at body temperature and absorb into the skin easily, helping to condition, soften and smooth the skin while preventing dryness."

Hey everyone!

So this week I had the chance to try a Montagne Jeunesse mask "Clean-Up Mud." This mask is for deep cleansing that has aloe juice for blemish prone skin. Some other ingredients include Mediterranean clay, willow, and witch hazel. When I opened the package, the smell was a bit strong at first (almost medicinal), but it did not bother me when I applied it to my face. I applied an even layer of the mud mask and let it sit for 10-15 min as directed. The mask went on smoothly and did not dry out as I was covering my entire face. I don't usually try masks because in the past they have gotten very itchy as they dry. But I was pleasantly surprised with this mask! Even though it smelled strong it did not irritate my sensitive skin. Instead there was this slight tingly and cooling sensation. After I rinsed off the mask, my skin felt very soft and smooth. It felt refreshed, cleansed, and did not proceed to feel very dry or itchy.

I just used this mask once, but other reviews on Montagne Jeunesse's website attest to the blemish control aspect, saying that after repeated uses they have noticed that it reduces blemishes and oil.

If you're looking to spend a little more on a clay mas, LATHER offers a comparable mask - White Clay Deep Pore Cleansing Mask, a detoxifying facemask for oily or acne-prone skin that can also be used on sensitive skin. This comes in a 4-ounce jar priced at $22.

At $6.95 Montagne Jeunesse Clean-Up Mud is a great price to try a mud mask without spending too much. But if you want to get a quick feel for a clay mask at an even lower price, you can try Freeman Feeling Beautiful Facial Clay Mask Avacado & Oatmeal. Although you will get a feel for clay masks, this mask does not work to alleviate blemishes or acne-prone skin.

Hello Readers! I hope you are enjoyed the holiday season. I have yet another blog, about yet another lipstick. However, this lipstick is a trusted favorite of mine - a go to for various reasons and occasions. This lipstick is the Revlon Matte Lipstick Pink Pout. Although I do like other Revlon Matte shades, the Pink Pout is my favorite so far.

Revlon final

What I love about this lipstick is both the color and the finish. The pink is a light shade, yet still a bold color choice, but I do not feel that it is overwhelmingly pink (which is good for me because I'm not usually one to wear pink). I wear this lipstick sometimes to my internship and often going out. It's a great go to lipstick; it isn't too bright but still adds a little pop of color to any outfit. I also really like the matte finish. I think if this were glossy it would be a bit too pink for me, but since this is matte it is this nice dewy pink. You can always add a gloss on top of the matte if you feel like changing it up! Another thing is that I always like the way the matte looks in pictures. Sometimes when I wear glossy lipstick, the shine with the flash can be a bit unflattering, but I've noticed with the matte my lipstick always looks more natural, rich, and chic. Now, I know you might be a bit worried about the matte being a really drying lipstick, but I feel like this Revlon Matte doesn't dry out my lips and I usually do a quick lip scrub (olive oil and sugar) before applying it just to make sure I get a clean finish. However, the lip scrub isn't always necessary.

All in all, this has been one of my favorite lipsticks for quite some time now, and I haven't found anything better to replace it. Added bonus, you can get Revlon lipsticks at local stores such as CVS and Target and it won't break your bank!

So which do you prefer? Matte or glossy?

Hello everyone,

Linnea checking in again from the Windy City. Although the last couple of days have been in the 60's and 50's in Chicago (ahh!) it quickly dropped back down to the 3o's and it's starting to feel more like real December weather. The short spurt of warm wind was a nice change in pace, but I think it was the last of the better weather days that I will see for a long while. So with that being said, I am still dealing with my typical winter dry skin and dry hair/scalp. A dry scalp has been a problem for me for quite a while - I'm always trying out new shampoos in an attempt to find something that soothes and moisturizes both my scalp and my hair, especially during the winter months. The leave in conditioner that I have been using recently (check out the blog - Acure Leave In Conditioner) has been working great on my ends and the rest of my hair, but I still need moisture directly on my scalp.

Well this week I didn't find a shampoo, but instead it's a hair and scalp treatment - Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Hair and Scalp Treatment. I'm sold on this product and plan to try the Tea Tree Oil Shampoo and Conditioner to get even more of this loveliness. I use this every other day on my hair after my normal shampoo. Unlike regular conditioner, I can massage this directly onto my scalp as well as the rest of my hair. This treatment moisturizes, soothes my scalp, leaves my hair really soft, and smells amazing! With tea tree oil, peppermint, and lavender the scent is both relaxing and refreshing. I haven't used any other shampoo/conditioner that feels and smells so fresh! Even though it's a thick conditioner consistency, when I massage it into my scalp and rinse it out well, my hair does not feel weighed down or greasy - but make sure to rinse it out well, otherwise it can feel a little thick. If you tend to use dandruff shampoo for a dry scalp, I recommend giving this a shot instead - it smells so much nicer and has very soothing ingredients such as soy proteins, vitamin E, and shea butter to repair and protect the hair as well as willow bark to soothe the skin.

So with this Tea Tree Oil Hair and Scalp Treatment along with the Acure Leave In Conditioner, I think I have found my weapons to combat dry hair/scalp this winter! Have a great weekend!

Leave It, Love It

Hello readers! For this week’s blog, I had the chance to try out a leave in conditioner. Whenever I hear someone talk about leave in conditioner I usually think of a hair mask—a thick creamy conditioner to leave in your hair for a few hours. But that’s not what most “leave in conditioners” are, as I found out while researching for this blog. Most leave in conditioners are light and meant to stay in your hair throughout the day. The one I tried is called Acure Leave in Conditioner with Moroccan Argan Oil and Argan Stem Cells. I’ve recently been noticing that my hair needs some extra care in addition to regular conditioner (I could probably use a trim) especially on the ends– so this week’s topic has perfect timing!

Acure Leave in Conditioner is easy to use and takes just a minute to spray it on and comb it in. And manageable hairthat’s it! Leave it and let it work it’s magic! The description for the product says “Spray it in for all-day weightless moisture and protection that makes your hair manageable and moisturized.” This description is spot on with my experience of the product! It’s perfect for everyday use. I spray on a good amount and it’s light on my hair, doesn’t weigh it down or leave it feeling greasy at the end of the day. I focused on my ends (which need the most help) but I also sprayed closer to my roots to help tone down some frizz. It left my hair soft and tangle free! I rarely have time for more intense hair treatments so this product fit in great with my crazy schedule. I also love the smell – this lemongrass, ginger, rosemary combination leave a clean and refreshing scent! An added bonus—there’s no synthetic fragrance since Acre is natural, organic hair care—so I feel pretty good about using this product on my hair!

What are some of your preferred ways to condition your hair? With winter upon us, I will need all the conditioning tips I can get! Have a great week!
